I look at my drawing and something feels wrong โ but I can't tell what
Why this happens
You've been staring at it too long. Your brain adapts to any image it sees for more than a few minutes โ it stops noticing errors and starts filling in what it expects to see. This isn't a metaphor. It's how vision works. The drawing becomes wallpaper. You need to break the pattern.
FIX IT NOW
- Walk away for 15 minutes. Not to "clear your head" โ to literally reset your visual adaptation. Make tea, check your phone, look out the window. When you come back, the first 5 seconds of looking at the piece will show you more than the last hour did
- Flip the canvas horizontally: Actions (wrench icon, top left) โ Canvas โ Flip Canvas Horizontally. Proportion errors and symmetry problems become immediately visible because your brain processes it as a new image
- If that doesn't isolate it โ pinch out fully until the canvas is thumbnail size. What's the first thing that bothers you at that scale? That's the problem. The eye goes to the biggest issue first
- Still can't see it? Export the piece and look at it in the Files app, not in Procreate. Different context, different eyes
- Write down the specific problem. "Something's off" is not actionable. Look for these: is something too big or too small? Is one side heavier than the other? Are the eyes level? Is there one area that pulls your attention away from the subject? Name it in one sentence โ that sentence is your fix
