I've been drawing for months and it feels like I'm not improving
Why this happens
Two different things could be happening and the fix is different for each. First: you actually are improving but can't see it because you're too close to your own work. Second: you're practicing comfort — drawing the same things the same way — without pushing into difficult territory.
FIX — first, find out which one it is
- Open your oldest piece in Procreate. Export it: long-press the piece in Gallery → Share → Save Image. Do the same with something from this week. Compare them side by side in Photos
- If there's visible improvement — your taste has grown faster than your hand. You can now see problems you couldn't see before. This is called the taste gap and it means you're on the right track. Keep going
- If there's genuinely no improvement between then and now: you're practicing comfort. Pick the single thing that bothers you most in your recent work — proportion, color, line quality, one thing — and spend the next 2 weeks drawing only that. Not full illustrations. Studies. 20 minutes a day on that one specific problem
