You can immediately tell it was made on an iPad โ€” it doesn't look real

Why this happens

Pure digital looks synthetic because real media has surface texture, variation, and imperfection. Clean fills and smooth gradients have no equivalent in any physical medium.

FIX IT NOW

  1. Create a new layer at the very top of your layer stack. Set it to Overlay blend mode
  2. In the brush library โ†’ Textures or Artistic category โ†’ pick any paper or grain texture brush
  3. Set color to pure mid-grey (#808080). Set brush opacity to 50%
  4. Cover the entire canvas with one or two passes. Overlay with mid-grey primarily adds contrast and grain without significantly changing your colors
  5. Reduce the layer opacity until it looks natural. Usually 25โ€“45%. Too much looks like a filter. The right amount looks like paper or canvas grain
